Our role
We provide continuity in the BIOEAST Initiative’s coordination and help its community translate common priorities into practical cooperation across Central and Eastern Europe.
Supporting the Secretariat’s work, dialogue with national hubs and thematic working groups, and cooperation with European institutions and partners. Helping maintain a shared direction across the BIOEAST community.
Connecting regional needs with European policy developments, research and foresight. Supporting strategic agendas and roadmaps for sustainable biomass use, resilient food systems and biomanufacturing.
Bringing public authorities, researchers and businesses together around project concepts and consortia. Supporting the preparation and implementation of European projects and the uptake of results across Central and Eastern Europe.
Our strategic direction
Our ambition is to bring larger partnerships, industrial projects and investment to the region, creating more local value from sustainably sourced biomass.
We support BIOEAST’s ambition for a pan-European research and innovation partnership focused on Central and Eastern Europe, including the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova. This builds on the cooperation advanced during the 2024 Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
BIOEAST’s partnership ambition ↗We aim to connect biomass producers, technology providers, industrial partners, regional authorities and investors around promising bioeconomy projects. A particular focus is preparing the partnerships and conditions for first-of-a-kind biorefineries, demonstration facilities and local biomanufacturing.
The region’s priorities for local biomass processing ↗BIOEAST Nexus supports cooperation to translate Central and Eastern Europe’s bioeconomy priorities into research and innovation partnerships, national and regional investment priorities, and projects ready for development. This includes preparation for opportunities under the proposed 2028–2034 EU budget framework, including the European Competitiveness Fund and National and Regional Partnership Plans.
